Borenos Fried Chicken celebrated the grand opening of its IMAGO Shopping Mall outlet on 20 August 2026, marking a major milestone for the Sabah-born fast-food brand as it reached 10 outlets across Malaysia.
The grand opening was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun, Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Finance Sabah, alongside Borenos management, partners, invited guests and members of the media.
Adding a distinctly Sabahan touch to the celebration, guests were also treated to a traditional cultural dance performance in front of the outlet.
Customers joined in the occasion too, with free goodie bags given to the first 200 customers who spent a minimum of RM20 during the grand opening.
A Full-Circle Moment, 10 Years Later
YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun’s presence carried special significance for Borenos, as he has supported the brand since its early years.
Nearly 10 years after officiating one of Borenos’ earlier outlet openings, YB Masidi returned to mark another milestone for the brand, this time the grand opening of its 10th outlet at IMAGO Shopping Mall.
In her welcoming address, Borenos CEO Janice Yeo thanked the team, partners and customers who have supported Borenos throughout its journey, while reaffirming the importance of staying connected to the brand’s Sabahan roots as it continues to grow.
“Today, outlet number 10 is not the finishing line. It is another beginning. As we grow beyond Sabah, we carry something very important with us – the warmth, hospitality and spirit of Sabah,” said Janice.
Growing from Sabah to the Rest of Malaysia
Borenos began in Kota Kinabalu in 2015, founded with the aim of giving Malaysians a quality local fried chicken option.
Today, Borenos operates 10 outlets nationwide, comprising seven in Sabah and three in West Malaysia.
The IMAGO celebration came shortly after the grand opening of Borenos Bandar Baru Bangi in Selangor on 11 August 2026, continuing a period of growth for the homegrown brand.
Even as Borenos expands beyond Sabah, strengthening its presence in its home state remains an important part of that journey. Its location at IMAGO Shopping Mall places the brand in one of Kota Kinabalu’s key shopping destinations, where it can serve Sabahans as well as domestic and international visitors to the city.
For visitors discovering Borenos for the first time, the outlet also offers a chance to experience a Malaysian fast-food brand that began right here in Sabah.
Borenos’ growth has also been recognised within the F&B industry. The Halal-certified brand received The BrandLaureate World Halal BestBrands Awards 2026 – Signature Brand and has been recognised at the GrabFood 5-Star Awards for three consecutive years, winning Best Western Food in 2023 and Crowd’s Favourite Western Food in 2024 and 2025.
