Aunty’s Heartfelt Gesture to Doctors and Nurses, with Borenos

At Borenos, we believe food is more than just a meal. It’s a way to express care, gratitude, and community.

That belief came to life in a quiet but powerful moment when a customer from Papar reached out with a simple request, not for herself but for those who had taken care of her.

A Thoughtful Act After Surgery

A 73-year-old customer from Papar had just undergone an eye operation at Hospital Queen Elizabeth I (HQE1) in Kota Kinabalu. As she recovered at home in Papar, she reached out to our team, not to place a typical order but to send a meal to the medical staff who had cared for her.

It was her way of saying thank you to the doctors, nurses, and support team in the operating theatre. No big announcement, no expectation of attention – just one heartfelt act, planned and delivered with quiet dignity.

Working Around Her Needs, With Heart

When the customer explained that she wasn’t confident using online banking – especially with her eyes still recovering – our team listened. She said simply:

“Aunty takut nanti salah hantar. Aunty baru operation mata [hari Selasa] jadi kapar mata tu.”

(Translation: Aunty is afraid of making a mistake. I just had eye surgery on Tuesday and my vision is still blurred.)

She also admitted:

“Aunty tidak pandai transfer duit.”

(Translation: I don’t know how to do online transfers.)

Understanding her concern, we made a special arrangement: although the meal would be delivered by our Asia City outlet in Kota Kinabalu, she could pay in person at our Papar branch using her ATM card.

She had already coordinated the delivery details with her contact at HQE1 and had even included a handwritten note thanking the medical team – small, personal touches that showed how much this meant to her.

A Meal That Spoke Volumes

The 5-person combo meal was delivered on time to HQE1 and received by staff as planned. No photos with fanfare, no posed posts. Just a simple “thank you” delivered in the form of hot food and handwritten words.

Though her messages were brief and her tone humble, her actions spoke clearly: this wasn’t just a meal, it was a gesture of love from one generation to another.

Sometimes, especially among our elders, love isn’t shown through grand speeches or elaborate captions. It’s in the food you send. The people you remember. The effort you make even when healing.

What This Means to Us at Borenos

For our team, this wasn’t just another delivery. It was a reminder of why we do what we do. It showed how Borenos can become a channel for connection and appreciation, especially for those who want to give back in meaningful, tangible ways.

We’re proud we could support her, not just as a customer, but as a member of the community using local food to honour local service.
